Peonies (Paeonia) – A Botanical Gem and the Queens of Late Spring
The peony (Paeonia) belongs to the peony family (Paeoniaceae), and our garden varieties mostly come from China, where this herbaceous perennial has been cultivated for thousands of years – it can grow and bloom in one spot in a garden for up to 100 years. At KvětinyExpres.cz peonies are more than just seasonal flowers; they are an annual ritual and the highlight of the florist's year. Their huge, fluffy blooms open from a small, unassuming bud into a fascinating “cloud” with an intoxicating scent.
Expertise and origin: why are KvětinyExpres.cz peonies different?
Our approach to peonies is not anonymous. While for the rest of the year we rely on the top-tier Dutch flower auction, during peak season (May–June) we work directly with local growers from Moravia.
Thanks to this direct collaboration we can deliver flowers that were still in the field that same morning. Local peonies have the advantage of not being stressed by long transport, which shows in a more intense fragrance and longer vase life. In our range you will find both single-colour varieties and the popular mixed-colour peonies.
Symbolism of wealth and happiness in the language of flowers
In the language of flowers, the peony represents happiness, wealth, honour, and a happy marriage. In Asian cultures it is revered as the “queen of flowers.” Precisely because of this deep symbolism and visual richness, peonies are an absolute hit for wedding bouquets, engagements, and anniversary celebrations.
Tip from Monika (Owner): “My peony favourite”
“Every year we wait impatiently for the end of May. Our absolute favourite is the 'Sarah Bernhardt' variety – its powdery pink colour and incredible richness of petals is simply unbeatable. If you buy peonies for your home, I recommend putting them in a deep vase with cold water and keeping them in a cooler part of your home. Warmth speeds up their blooming considerably. If you want to give someone a ready-made arrangement, our peony bouquets are tied to let the natural beauty of every bloom shine.”
Caring for cut peonies
As cut flowers they need a clean vase and regular re-cutting of the stems. If you would like to put together your own combination for home decoration, our cut flowers by the stem section lets you choose peonies exactly to your mood and the quantity you want.
Treat yourself to peony luxury with extras
To make the experience of these royal flowers complete, we recommend adding a small treat. Romantic peonies pair beautifully with our select pralines and chocolate or a chilled bottle of wine and prosecco.
