Daffodil (Narcissus) – The Bright Sun of Spring. The daffodil is the first messenger of spring and one of the brightest symbols of hope and awakening. Its iconic, most often yellow, colour brings instant energy and optimism to any arrangement. In floristry, it is absolutely indispensable for spring bouquets.
Florist's Expert View: Energy and the Sap Risk As florists, we love daffodils for their ability to brighten up any arrangement. However, they have one major quirk – after being cut, they release a toxic sap that can "poison" and shorten the vase life of other flowers.
Tip from Andrea (Natural and Meadow Style Expert) "Daffodils are pure energy. They are beautiful in meadow bouquets, where they look natural. But always, after cutting them, let them 'condition' separately in a vase of clean water for at least a few hours (ideally overnight). Only then should you add them to other flowers in a spring bouquet."
Use in Floristry The daffodil is a key element for spring floristry:
-
Spring bouquets (in mixed arrangements with tulips and hyacinths)
-
Meadow bouquets (where they look very natural)
-
Mono bouquets (just a bunch in a vase)
-
Spring decorations and arrangements
