Cyclamen – The Magic of Christmas That Blooms All the Way Through Spring
When it's freezing outside and most of nature is asleep, Cyclamen comes to life. Its delicate blooms, ranging from snow white through deep pink to Christmas red, are proof that even winter can burst with color.
It's no wonder it's become a symbol of Christmas, hope, and perseverance. At Květiny Expres, we love it for its elegance and its ability to light up any windowsill.

Why Give Cyclamen as a Gift?
Looking for a small but striking gift for a colleague, a grandmother, or a teacher? Cyclamen is the ideal choice:
-
The queen of winter: It blooms exactly when we need it most (November–March).
-
Symbolism: It embodies tenderness, strength, and loyalty.
-
Value for money: For just a few crowns, you get a show that lasts for months.
How to Grow Cyclamen? (Tips to Help It Survive Christmas)
Many people worry their cyclamen will wilt in a warm apartment. It doesn't have to! You just need to know one trick.
Tip from florist Monika (plant care): "Cyclamen is tough. The most common mistake is that people 'bake' it and drown it. It loves cooler hallways or bedrooms (10–16°C). If you keep it in a warm living room, move it somewhere cool for the night. And most importantly: always pour water only into the saucer underneath! Never directly onto the tuber or leaves, or it will start rotting from the center."
A quick growing guide:
✅ Location: Bright light, but no direct sun.
✅ Watering: From below, into the saucer. After 30 minutes, pour off any excess water.
✅ Fertilizing: Every 2–3 weeks with a fertilizer for flowering plants.
✅ After blooming: Don't panic when it starts to fade. The plant is entering its vegetative rest. Cut back on watering, keep it somewhere cool, and it will reward you with renewed strength come autumn.
Cyclamen in Winter Décor
Cyclamen doesn't have to stand alone in a corner. Our florists love combining it into rich Christmas arrangements. It pairs wonderfully with:
-
Poinsettia (the classic red + white combination)
-
Amaryllis (playing with height – low cyclamen paired with tall amaryllis)
Want to see how it all comes together? Take a look at our gift baskets, for example the Cyclamen Gift Basket and the Guzmania gift basket.
How to Spot a Healthy Plant? (We Choose on Your Behalf)
If you're picking out a cyclamen in a shop, be careful. The leaves should be firm, with no yellow spots or mold underneath. The key to long-lasting blooms is a good number of small, hidden buds tucked under the leaves.
Why order Cyclamen from Květiny Expres? Because cyclamen can't tolerate temperature shocks.
-
We only select A1-quality plants with plenty of buds.
-
We deliver it with our own Airway couriers (no sitting around freezing in a shipping depot).
-
We bring it to your door in perfect condition.

Frequently asked questions about cyclamen
Where should I put a cyclamen?
In a bright spot without direct sun, ideally in a cooler room (10–16 °C), such as a hallway or a bedroom. If it is in a warm living room, move it somewhere cool for the night. You will find more about choosing the spot in the article Winter Window Boxes and Window Decorations.
How do I water a cyclamen?
Always only into the saucer. After 30 minutes, pour off the excess water. Never pour water directly onto the tuber or the leaves, otherwise it starts to rot from the centre.
How often should I feed a cyclamen?
Once every 2–3 weeks with fertiliser for flowering plants.
What should I do with a cyclamen after it blooms?
Do not worry if it starts to wilt, the plant is entering vegetative dormancy. Reduce watering, put it somewhere cool, and in autumn it will reward you with new strength.
How can I tell a healthy cyclamen?
The leaves must be firm, without yellow spots and mould in the undergrowth. The key to long flowering is a large number of small, hidden buds under the leaves.
Is a cyclamen dangerous for pets?
Cyclamen contains saponins, most of them in the tuber, and it can be toxic to cats and dogs. Keep it out of their reach.
