Dieffenbachia – the large-leaved queen of houseplants
Dieffenbachia, also known as dumb cane, is for us at KvětinyExpres.cz a piece of rainforest in your living room. Large oval leaves with a yellow-white pattern brighten any corner, and thanks to its fast growth it soon becomes an elegant solitaire for a living room or an office.
Interesting facts:
- From the rainforests: It comes from tropical rainforests, so it loves warmth and humidity. The ideal temperature is 18–25 °C and it should never drop below 15 °C.
- Pattern depends on light: It does best in bright, diffused light. In direct sun the leaves turn yellow, and in shade they lose their pattern.
- Mind the sap: The sap of Dieffenbachia is poisonous and irritates skin and mucous membranes. Handle it with care and keep the plant out of reach of small children and pets.
- Dislikes draughts: It is sensitive to cold and draughts, which is why we deliver it in a heated car and a thermal box right to your door.
A tip from florist Monika: “Dieffenbachia is gorgeous, but it has a ‘sharp’ side. Its sap is poisonous and irritates the skin. If you have small children or cats at home that like to nibble on plants, choose a spider plant instead. If not, Dieffenbachia will reward you with lush growth. Just protect it from draughts – it cannot stand them!”
