How to Water Succulents Without Rotting Them
The most common mistake is the opposite of what you'd expect — people don't kill succulents with drought, but with overwatering. Roots in wet soil rot quickly.

The "soak and forget" rule: Water thoroughly, letting water run through the whole pot, then wait until the substrate is completely dry — even 1–2 weeks.

Almost nothing in winter: Succulents "sleep" through winter. Watering once a month, sometimes even less, is enough.

Drainage is essential: The pot needs a drainage hole and a layer of expanded clay or gravel at the bottom.
How Much Light Do They Need?
A lot. Most succulents come from deserts and steppes, so they love a south-facing window and direct sun. If a plant's leaves start to pale and "stretch" toward the light (a process called etiolation), move it somewhere brighter.

"In summer, feel free to move your succulents out onto the balcony or terrace — fresh air and direct sun will do them good. Just remember to bring them back inside before the first frost."
