Daffodil – The Yellow Energy Spring and Women's Day Would Not Be the Same Without

The Daffodil (Narcissus) belongs to the amaryllis family (Amaryllidaceae) and comes from the Mediterranean and Western Europe, where it grows as a bulb. When the scent of daffodils first appears in our workshop in Strašnice, we know winter has definitively lost. A daffodil is not just a flower, it is concentrated sunshine in a bouquet. For us at KvětinyExpres.cz it is the absolute star of the start of the season and an essential symbol for International Women's Day flowers. On March 8th, daffodils are the most common messengers of respect and joy that we deliver to women across Prague.

Why we love daffodils (and what you should know):

The star of Women's Day: Thanks to their bright colour and affordable price, daffodils (alongside tulips) are the obvious choice for large corporate orders as well as small treats for colleagues.
A symbol of new hope: In the language of flowers, the daffodil means rebirth. It is a heartfelt compliment that says: “You are my sunshine.”

Tip from Andrea (Seasonal Arrangements Specialist): “Daffodils are a bit of 'egoists' in a bouquet. You may have noticed that when you put them in a vase with other flowers, those other flowers wilt fast. The culprit is a thick sap (lycorine) that the stem releases. My tried-and-true advice: if you buy daffodils from our stall at Kulaťák for a spring bouquet, leave them in a separate vase of water for a few hours first. Once they have 'released' the sap, you can safely add them to tulips. But be careful – do not re-cut the stems after that, or the process starts all over again!”
