Did a courier deliver you a bouquet of gladioli? For this tall beauty to bring you joy for up to 10 days, it needs specific care.

A tall vase is essential: Gladioli can reach up to a meter in height. They need a heavy, stable vase so they don't tip over.

Remove the leaves: Any leaves that would reach into the water must go. Otherwise they'll cloud the water and the flower will wilt.

An angled cut: Trim the stems with a sharp knife at a 45° angle.

Removing spent blooms: Gladioli open gradually from the bottom up. Once the bottom bloom fades, gently pluck it off. This lets the plant channel its energy into the buds higher up.
A florist's tip: "Do you see small, green, undeveloped buds at the very tip of the stem? If you carefully pinch them off, the gladiolus will stop growing taller and channel all its energy into opening the large, colorful blooms instead. That makes for a fuller bouquet."
