You may not know the name, but you've definitely seen it before. Santini (officially Santini Chrysanthemums) is a flower that modern floristry would struggle to do without.
It's not the huge chrysanthemum you know from All Souls' Day arrangements. Santini is its tiny, adorable, and incredibly hardy cousin. It's a small miracle that gives bouquets volume, texture, and freshness.
How Is Santini Different From a Regular Chrysanthemum?
Santini is a specific miniature variety.
-
The spray effect: On a single stem, you won't find just one bloom, but a whole flood of tiny flowers (often resembling buttons or pompoms).
-
Compactness: The stems are shorter and branch densely, making it the ideal material for rounded arrangements.

What makes Santini so popular is its incredible range of colors. Santini's color palette offers shades you won't find in other flowers:
-
Green (Kermit, Froggy): The best-known variety. Its bright lime-green color gives bouquets a modern, "fresh" look.
-
White: Pure and innocent, resembling small daisies.
-
Yellow and Orange: The bright colors of sunshine and energy.
-
Wine Red and Purple: Deep tones that give a bouquet drama and elegance.
A Star of Autumn and Year-Round Arrangements Alike
Thanks to its color range, Santini is completely universal. While we use the green and white cultivars year-round in colorful mixes, the darker ones are an essential foundation for autumn bouquets.
Florist Andrea (our natural-arrangement specialist): "When I'm putting together an autumn arrangement, Santini is my number one choice. Its rusty and bronze shades pair perfectly with colorful foliage, rose hips, and heather. It works like a glue that ties the whole bouquet together and gives it richness."
Why Do Our Florists Love It?
Santini isn't just "filler." It's the flower that holds a bouquet together.
Florist Bára: "I'm a total believer in Santini. Green Santini works in a bouquet like a 'light switch' – it beautifully separates red roses from one another, giving the bouquet airiness and a modern look. Plus, the stems are sturdy and don't break."
Care: How to Keep Santini Fresh?
This is this flower's biggest benefit. Santini is a "keeper."
Tip from florist Monika: "Santini is among the most long-lasting cut flowers there is. With proper care, it'll stay beautiful in a vase for 2 to 3 weeks. An important rule: remove any leaves from the lower part of the stem that would sit in the water. Chrysanthemum leaves spoil quickly in water and contaminate it. Do this and change the water regularly, and Santini will even outlast the other flowers in the bouquet."
Inspiration: Where Else Will You Find Santini?
Whether you're looking for a colorful birthday bouquet or an understated arrangement, Santini plays its role perfectly in both.
