Lilac (Syringa) is a genus of shrubs to small trees in the olive family. The best known is common lilac, which is often grown in the Czech Republic and also commonly grows wild.
May and lilac simply go together. Some people treat lilac as a weed, but it's actually a very beautiful, fragrant shrub. Its full clusters of flowers bloom gradually and have a woody stem. To keep lilac fresh in a vase, we recommend warm water, and gently tapping the woody stem with a mallet so the lilac can drink as much water as possible.
