Solidago (Goldenrod) – The Golden Companion of Indian Summer
Solidago (goldenrod) belongs to the daisy family (Asteraceae), and most ornamental species are native to North America, from where they have also spread into European nature. It is a hardy perennial that brings a warm yellow colour and rich texture, resembling delicate golden feathers, into floristry. It is a flower that acts as a bridge between summer and autumn in any bouquet.
What it looks like and what will surprise you: Goldenrod forms dense, plume-like flower clusters made up of thousands of tiny yellow stars. Its stems are sturdy and its leaves a deep green, creating a beautiful contrast against the radiant blooms.
Myth vs. reality (a fun fact): Many people avoid goldenrod out of fear of allergies. The truth, however, is that its pollen is heavy and sticky, so it does not travel through the air (it is carried by insects instead). The real culprit behind autumn hay fever is usually the inconspicuous ragweed, which blooms at the same time. So goldenrod is completely safe and friendly in a vase!
