Wedding Flowers by Season: Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter

Why Choose Wedding Flowers by Season?

Choosing wedding flowers should always follow one main rule: respect nature. If you choose flowers that naturally bloom in the month of your wedding, you'll get the highest quality, the most intense fragrance, and above all, save a significant amount of your wedding budget.

At KvětinyExpres.cz we prepare wedding decor for you all year round. Which colors and materials dominate each season, and why are some months more popular than others?

When Do Czechs Get Married Most Often, and Why Are They Afraid of May?

The main wedding season in the Czech Republic runs from June to September. The reason is purely practical — the weather is warmest and most stable, which makes it possible to hold both the ceremony and the reception outdoors. May, on the other hand, despite being considered the month of love, with nature in full bloom, has long lagged behind here. Why?

Monika, our wedding tradition specialist, explains: "It's due to an old superstition, roughly translating to 'a May wedding, a bride on the bier.' Historically it had a logical basis — if a bride became pregnant in May, she faced an exhausting summer of fieldwork ahead, and the baby would then be born into the harshest February cold, right when food supplies were running low. Of course, nothing like that threatens us today, but this superstition took strong root among Czechs. From a floristry perspective, though, it's a huge shame, because May is actually the month of the most beautiful, most fragrant flowers!"

A Spring Wedding (March – May): Freshness and Pastel Tones

Spring is a symbol of new beginnings. If you overcome the "May superstition," you'll be rewarded with arrangements that are incredibly fresh, full of intoxicating scent and delicate colors.

  • Typical flowers: Tulips, daffodils, hyacinths, lily of the valley, fragrant freesias, ranunculus, and, right at the end of spring, beloved peonies.

  • Colors: Powder pink, lilac, pale yellow, mint, and pure white.

A tip from our florist Bára: "Peonies are an absolute wedding hit, but their natural season is very short (usually May to mid-June). If you love peonies but your wedding is at the end of August, I recommend choosing an alternative, such as lush English roses instead. Peonies in August are imported, their price is astronomical, and their quality drops rapidly in summer heat."

A Summer Wedding (June – September): The Main Wedding Season

Summer is ideal for outdoor ceremonies, barn weddings, and open-meadow celebrations. It's the season of the most lavish bouquets.

  • Typical flowers: Sunflowers, lush hydrangeas, meadow flowers (daisies, cornflowers, poppies), lisianthus, and lavender.

  • Colors: Bright yellow, sky blue, white, or deep orange.

Watch out for summer heat (our Airway rescue): While summer favors a rich palette of flowers, summer sun is a huge stress test for them. Especially popular meadow flowers and hydrangeas wilt very quickly. That's why at KvětinyExpres.cz we guarantee that no matter how hot your July or August wedding day gets, we'll bring every flower to the venue completely fresh and chilled in our air-conditioned Airway vehicles.

An Autumn Wedding (September – November): Earthy Extravagance

Autumn weddings (especially in September and October) are extremely popular today, thanks to stable weather, wonderfully soft light for photos, and unique earthy tones.

  • Typical flowers: Dahlias, chrysanthemums, asters, heather, amaranthus, and autumn accents like rosehips or blackberries.

  • Colors: Terracotta, burgundy, copper, deep green, mustard.

  • Table decorations: Ornamental pumpkins, chestnuts, colorful leaves, fairy lights, and candles. It pairs beautifully with the popular rustic setup. (If this style appeals to you, read our article Wedding Styles: Boho and Rustic.)

A Winter Wedding (December – February): Luxury for the Bold

Winter weddings are for bold couples, but the result always takes your breath away. They embody elegance, contrast, and chateau-style luxury.

  • Typical flowers: Amaryllis, red roses, luxury orchids, holly (with red berries), or even cotton branches.

  • Colors: Snow white, silver, gold, deep red, and emerald.

  • Table decorations: Pinecones, conifer sprigs, plenty of tall candles, faux fur draped over chairs, and cut-glass accents.
