But we're often asked: "Why is the price of peonies a little different every week?" or "Why does a peony from you cost more than the one in a bucket by the supermarket entrance?" We've decided to be completely transparent. Let's take a look behind the scenes of the flower business and explain how the price of this beautiful but very delicate flower is actually set.
How Does the Price of Peonies Change Over the Season?
Peonies have one of the shortest seasons of any cut flower. And it's exactly that short window that moves their price the most, both on the Dutch flower auction and with local growers.

Start of season (late April / early May): Demand is huge, but there are still very few flowers. Most come from specialized greenhouses or are imported from warmer regions. During this period, the price of a single premium stem (e.g. of the iconic double-flowered variety Sarah Bernhardt) ranges from 119 to 169 CZK. You're paying for exclusivity and the first joy of spring.

Peak season (late May / early June): At this point peonies start blooming en masse across Europe, including from Czech growers. The market becomes saturated and the price drops sharply. By the turn of May and June, you can buy the very same gorgeous peony from us for well under 50 CZK per stem.

A1 quality vs. the rest of the market: We source A1 quality exclusively. That means a strong stem and a sufficiently mature bud, which comes with a 100% guarantee it will open beautifully into a huge bloom in a vase at home. Supermarkets often buy "undersized" flowers or ones cut too early, which don't have the strength to open.

Stress from dry transport: The peony is a huge "drinker." If it sits dry in a truck for two days without water, it goes into shock, the bud closes up (so-called "freezing"), and the flower simply dries out.
