Oak leaves

Oak leaves (Quercus) – the rusty natural finishing touch of autumn bouquets

For us at KvětinyExpres.cz, oak leaves are the last detail that turns an autumn bouquet into a truly autumnal one. Rusty, yellow-brown to deep wine-coloured leaves with a strong vein pattern give an arrangement a natural, slightly loose shape and the warm colours of the season. They are not a flower, but without them an autumn bouquet would not be complete.

Interesting facts:

  • Every leaf is different: Colour and vein pattern differ from leaf to leaf, which is why we choose the oak leaves for our bouquets by hand, one by one.
  • The colour changes: In a bouquet the oak leaves gradually turn brown. This is a natural autumn effect, not a flaw – feel free to keep them, they give the bouquet an even more authentic look.
  • They outlast the flowers: Oak leaves and dried decorations are in fact lasting, so you can leave them in the vase even after the flowers have finished blooming.
  • A traditional symbol: In European tradition the oak stands for strength and endurance.
  • Great companions: They go best with chrysanthemums, Santini chrysanthemums and hydrangeas, but also with roses, hypericum and solidago.

A tip from florist Andrea: “I always add rusty oak leaves to autumn bouquets last – they give the arrangement a natural, slightly loose shape, so the bouquet does not look mechanically arranged. I choose the leaves by hand, one by one, by the colour of the veins – each one is coloured differently, and it is exactly this irregularity that makes the bouquet look natural.”

✦ Use at KvětinyExpres.cz: You will find oak leaves, for example, in our Autumn Oak Bouquet, in the Autumn bouquet Shaggy or in the Autumn Sunflower. Look for more bouquets in autumn colours in the Autumn Bouquets category.
