Eustoma (Lisianthus) – The Silky Rose of the Prairies
Eustoma (Eustoma grandiflorum), also known in Czech as “jícnovka,” belongs to the gentian family (Gentianaceae). In the wild it is a short-lived perennial from the grassy prairies of Texas and Mexico, though in cultivation it is commonly grown as an annual. Its gently ruffled blooms resemble an unopened rose, but do not let its delicate look fool you – it is among the hardiest cut flowers there are.

Origin: Although it looks like it belongs in a French garden, it actually comes from the wild landscapes of Texas and Mexico, where it grows under demanding conditions.
