Floral Inspiration From Travel

Floral Inspiration From Travel: Bring the Scent of the Canaries, the Azores, or Capri Home With You

Summer isn't only vacation time, it's also the season when nature shows its most colorful, most fragrant face. If you love flowers as much as you love traveling, join us on a small floral journey through Europe's most beautiful island destinations.

The Canary Islands, the Balearics, the Azores, and Capri – each of these corners of the world has its own unique style. Our florists at Květiny Expres drew inspiration from the local climate and put together tips for bringing a piece of that atmosphere into a Czech living room.

Flowers With the Scent of Faraway Places

You don't have to travel thousands of kilometers to feel summer. These arrangements will transport you to the beach:

1. The Canary Islands – Tropical Energy and Volcanic Contrast

The Canaries mean eternal spring. Islands of volcanic origin offer a dramatic contrast between black lava-formed earth and the vivid colors of exotic flowers.

  • Best time to visit: Year-round (main flowering season November–May).

  • Typical flowers: Strelitzia, plumeria, bougainvillea, aloe.

A florist's view: The dominant flower here is the iconic strelitzia (Strelitzia reginae), nicknamed the "bird of paradise." Its orange-and-blue blooms evoke the tropics, strength, and optimism. Bougainvillea is everywhere too, its deep pink and purple bracts decorating the white walls of houses.

Tip from our florists: "Want a bit of exoticism at home? Don't be afraid of bold shapes. One or three strelitzias in a tall vase, finished off with just a large monstera leaf or eucalyptus, create a modern, architectural element that lasts a very long time in a vase."

2. The Balearic Islands (Mallorca, Ibiza) – Boho Minimalism

A relaxed, rustic atmosphere rules on Mallorca or Ibiza. The local style isn't about loud colors, but about texture, scent, and a connection to the land.

  • Best time to visit: May–September.

  • Typical flowers: Lavender, olive branches, rosemary, white hydrangeas.

A florist's view: Local floristry here is strongly influenced by the "boho" style. Bouquets are tied loosely, "tousled," often combining fresh flowers with dried grasses and herbs. White, cream, and silvery green (thanks to olive branches and eucalyptus) dominate the palette.

Tip from our florists: "Add herbs to your bouquet! A sprig of rosemary, olive branch, or lavender gives a bouquet not just a Mediterranean look, but above all a scent. It's the ideal style for summer garden parties."

3. The Azores – A Blue Paradise in the Mist

The Azores are a botanical garden in the middle of the Atlantic. Thanks to the humid climate, everything here is incredibly green and fresh.

  • Best time to visit: June–September.

  • Typical flowers: Hydrangeas (in every shade), ferns, moss, heather.

A florist's view: The Azores, and especially the island of Faial, are known as the "islands of hydrangeas." Blue, purple, and pink hydrangea globes line the roads for kilometers here. The floral style here is about volume and freshness – a combination of enormous hydrangea blooms with wild ferns.

Tip from our florists: "The hydrangea is a flower that doesn't need many neighbors. Create a single-variety arrangement out of several large hydrangeas, or finish it off with just delicate greenery. Note that hydrangeas love water – cut the stems at an angle and give them a completely full vase of water."

4. Capri and Amalfi – Italian "Dolce Vita" Elegance

Capri is synonymous with luxury, elegance, and citrus groves. The local style is refined, clean, and smells of lemons and the sea.

  • Best time to visit: May–June, September.

  • Typical flowers: White roses, lisianthus, branches with lemons, jasmine.

A florist's view: Arrangements on Capri often come in the colors of sunshine and white sea foam on the waves. Local florists love combining snow-white flowers (roses, lisianthus) with deep green foliage and yellow accents (often actual small lemons, or yellow freesias).

Tip from our florists: "Try the 'Capri Chic' style. Put slices of lemons and limes into a clear glass vase, and arrange white roses or eustoma inside it. It looks incredibly fresh and summery."

Summer at Home: 3 Quick Tips

  1. Scent is the foundation: Summer has a smell. Don't be afraid to add mint, lemon balm, or eucalyptus to a vase.

  2. Mix styles: Combining elegant roses with meadow flowers or herbs is very trendy this year.

  3. Gift a memory: A summer bouquet is a wonderful gift for someone who's just returned from vacation (or is still looking forward to it).

Let yourself be inspired by nature and flowers from travel. At KvětinyExpres.cz, we're happy to put together a custom bouquet for you that tells the story of your favorite destination.
