3. Practical Planting Tips (To Keep Your Plants Alive)
Drainage is essential. Never pour soil directly onto the bottom of a window box (unless it's self-watering). Always put a 2–3 cm layer of expanded clay pebbles or small stones at the bottom. This prevents root rot if you overwater or a downpour hits.
Quality substrate Don't use soil straight from the garden (it's heavy and may contain pests). Buy a special substrate for balcony plants instead. It often contains an additive that holds moisture better.
Fertilizing = blooms Balcony plants have very little soil, and they deplete nutrients quickly.

For abundant blooms (geraniums, calibrachoa), add liquid fertilizer ("Bloom Booster") to the water every week. Without feeding, they won't have the strength to set new buds.
