Tip From Florist Andrea: Watch Out for the "Slime"!
This is something many people don't know, and they unknowingly ruin their whole bouquet because of it. "The daffodil is beautiful, but in a bouquet it's a bit of a selfish character," explains our florist Andrea. "After the stem is cut, it releases a sticky sap into the water that's toxic to other spring flowers (especially tulips), because it clogs their vascular tissue. My advice: if you buy daffodils separately and want to add them to other flowers at home, let them 'cry it out' first for an hour in a separate vase of water after cutting. Only once they stop releasing the sap can you safely mix them with the others."
