The Big List of Spring Flowers: What Blooms in Czechia From February to May?
Spring flowers are like a small miracle. After a gray winter, it's they who bring back our energy with their colors and scent. Whether you're a gardener, a nature lover, or you just want to know what to put in a vase for your Easter table, we've put together a complete overview of spring flora in Central Europe.
We've organized them chronologically, in the order they gradually awaken nature.
1. The Messengers of Spring (February – March)
These bold little plants often push their way out even from beneath leftover snow. They're a symbol of hope and resilience.
-
Snowdrop (Galanthus) – An absolute classic. White heads that signal the end of winter. Note: it's a protected species in the wild!
-
Spring snowflake (Leucojum) – Similar to the snowdrop, but has cute yellow or green dots on the edges of its white petals.
-
Winter aconite (Eranthis) – Glows a deep yellow and looks like a little sun in the grass.
-
Hellebore (Helleborus) – The queen of winter gardens. It often blooms while still under snow, in shades from white and green to deep purple.
-
Crocus (Crocus) – Small but striking. Its purple, yellow, or white cups often cover entire meadows.
2. Peak Spring Season (March – April)
During this period, nature (and our flower shop) plays out in every color. These are the flowers you'll most often find in our spring bouquets.
-
Tulip (Tulipa) The king of spring. There are thousands of varieties – from simple ones to fully double blooms that resemble peonies.
Florist's tip: Did you know tulips keep growing in a vase? Sometimes by several centimeters. Keep that in mind when choosing your vase.
-
Daffodil (Narcissus) A symbol of Easter. The yellow trumpet blooms are iconic, but the white varieties with an orange center are just as gorgeous.
Careful: A freshly cut daffodil releases a sap that's toxic to other flowers. Before adding it to a bouquet with tulips, let it "sweat out" in its own water for an hour.
-
Hyacinth (Hyacinthus) The flower with the most intense spring scent. Its clusters of blooms, in blue, pink, or white, will fragrance your whole home.
-
Ranunculus (Ranunculus) A favorite of modern florists. Its blooms look like tiny roses with countless petals. It's incredibly photogenic and long-lasting.
-
Grape hyacinth (Muscari) – Tiny blue balls that look beautiful in small vases or as an accent in spring window boxes.
-
Primrose (Primula) – The "key to spring." A colorful perennial that no flower bed should be without.

4. Spring Flowers in the Wild (Forest and Meadow)
Next time you go for a spring walk, look around you. Czech nature has treasures to offer:
-
Coltsfoot – Yellow flowers with healing properties. It often grows by roadsides.
-
Lungwort – An interesting plant that has both pink and purple flowers on the same stem.
-
Wood anemone – Carpets of white flowers in spring forests.
-
Forget-me-not – Tiny blue blooms, true to its name.
-
Sweet violet – Hidden in the grass, but its gorgeous scent gives it away.
Spring flowers are a symbol of new beginnings. Whether you sow them in your garden or order a fresh spring bouquet for your home, they're guaranteed to lift your mood. Nature is waking up – wake your home up along with it.
