Vanda – an exotic orchid with aerial roots
For us at KvětinyExpres.cz, the Vanda is the orchid for those who are looking for something exceptional. It comes from tropical Asia, where it grows on trees, and so it needs no substrate – its aerial roots hang freely and turn it into a living design sculpture. Rich blooms in shades of purple, pink, orange, blue and yellow stand out in any interior.
Interesting facts:
- It lives without substrate: The roots hang freely in the air and absorb moisture on their own. Never plant it in a classic pot with substrate – the roots would rot quickly.
- Different from a common orchid: Unlike the classic Phalaenopsis orchid, the Vanda needs high humidity and warmth, which makes it better suited to experienced growers.
- Striking height: We offer it at around 60 cm, where it stands out as an elegant solitaire.
- Long-lasting blooms: The colourful flowers last a long time and make the Vanda a luxurious gift for lovers of design plants.
A tip from florist Míša: “The Vanda is my favourite challenge among orchids – the roots in the air look incredible, but they need care almost like a pet. My trick? In the morning soak them briefly in lukewarm water in a bowl, do not just mist them – that is how they really drink. And never put them in a classic pot with substrate, they would rot quickly.”
