Panicle Hydrangea (Hydrangea Paniculata) – a sturdy beauty for the garden or terrace

A hardy shrub that can even take full sun

Unlike the more familiar bigleaf hydrangea, the panicle hydrangea (Hydrangea paniculata) is a true garden workhorse – it tolerates full sun, is fully frost-hardy, and its cone-shaped flower panicles gradually turn pink to red over summer and autumn. It's perfect as a garden specimen, in a large pot on the terrace, or as part of a hedge.

Tip from Monika (owner of KvětinyExpres.cz): "I've been growing hydrangeas in my own garden for years, and the panicle type is my favourite – unlike the bigleaf one, I don't have to shield it from sun or worry about frost in winter. In spring I cut it back by about a third, water it through summer, and I'm rewarded with huge white panicles that turn pink on their own by late summer. Feel free to leave the spent blooms over winter too – they hold up beautifully dried and make a lovely winter decoration in the garden."
