Peonies are the queens of a bouquet, but also its biggest "divas." They have enormous flowers that need a huge amount of water. If you notice peonies drooping in a bouquet while the other flowers are fine, take them out of the arrangement and give them a separate treatment.

SOS rescue: Trim the stem by 5 cm and remove excess leaves. Put them in a deep vase with lukewarm water, submerging as much of the stem as possible.

A trick for opening buds: If a peony bud is "stuck" shut with dried nectar, gently rinse it under lukewarm running water.

Rescuing chrysanthemums: Chrysanthemums are very long-lasting, but they can't stand leaves in the water. Trick: Rather than cutting, snap off chrysanthemum stem ends by hand to increase the surface area for water uptake.

SOS for gerberas: They need only a little water (about 5 cm), but it has to be crystal clear. If a head droops, re-cut the stem and put it in deeper water for a while.
