All Souls' Day With Respect: How to Choose Grave Flowers and Décor That Lasts
As autumn arrives, the time of All Souls' Day draws near. It's a season of quiet remembrance, when we want to honor the memory of our loved ones and beautify the place of their final rest.
From our years of experience in the shop, we know that choosing the right décor is an important and personal act for many of you. That's why we (me, Monika, and my colleagues Bára and Andrea) have put together this guide. We'll advise you on how to choose tasteful and, above all, long-lasting décor that can withstand damp, chilly weather.
Symbols of Eternity: Classic All Souls' Day Wreaths
Decorations made from durable materials form the basis of traditional All Souls' Day décor. Funeral wreaths are the most common choice, and rightly so. Their circular shape symbolizes eternity and the cycle of life.

The base matters most: As professionals, we always prefer wreaths with a genuine base of noble fir (Nobilis). Unlike spruce, it doesn't shed its needles and keeps its fresh look and scent for a long time, even outdoors.

Natural decorating: This year, natural materials are in – pinecones, dried fruit, rose hips, or ribbons in muted colors. It looks dignified and eco-friendly.
Funeral Bouquets: To Lay Down, or for a Vase?
An alternative to wreaths are funeral bouquets. Here it's important to distinguish where you'll be placing the flowers.

Tied bouquets to lay down: These are flat (they have one front-facing side) and we arrange them from hardy conifers that form a "bed" for the flowers. They're stable and won't get knocked over by the wind.

Bouquets for a vase: If there's a vase on the grave, choose flowers with a sturdy stem. Keep in mind that water can crack the vase during the first frosts – we recommend using a plastic liner.

The weather at the turn of October and November can be unpredictable. Which species handle it best?
1. Chrysanthemums: The Queens of Autumn
Chrysanthemums are the number one choice. They're exceptionally cold-hardy and come in an incredible range of colors.

Tip from florist Andrea: "With cut chrysanthemums for a vase, always remove any leaves that would be submerged in water. That way the water won't spoil, and the flowers will last a week longer."
2. Heather and Silver Bush: Hardy Beauty
For planting in bowls and planters, outdoor plants like heather (Calluna) are ideal. They tolerate light frost and still look beautiful even once they dry out later – they don't lose their color. For a modern look, we like pairing them with silver bush (Calocephalus).
Practical Tips to Make Décor Last

Stability above all: Autumn winds can be strong. We recommend weighing down lighter decorations and candles with stones, or partially setting them into the ground or sand.

Less is more: Instead of many small, mismatched decorations, one main element (a beautiful wreath) paired with a simple candle often stands out better.
